Description

A welded wire deck that drops into standard step beams with no fasteners, rated twenty-five hundred pounds per pair, evenly distributed. Wire rather than particleboard for three reasons that all show up in an inspection. Sprinkler water passes through wire and reaches the level below, where a solid deck shields the fire from the system that is meant to put it out, and many jurisdictions will write that up. Nothing collects on a wire deck, so a dropped fastener or a spill is visible rather than hidden. And wire does not absorb moisture, swell and sag the way board does in an unheated building. The deck sits on the beam step under its own weight and is not fixed, which is intentional: it can be lifted out to change a beam level in minutes. Confirm your beam is a step beam and measure the inside face-to-face span before ordering, because a deck cut for a box beam will not seat.
