Water-Activated Tape, Reinforced

Description

Gummed kraft tape with fibreglass strands laid in both directions, three inches wide, four hundred and fifty feet to the roll. Activated with water, it bonds into the corrugate fibre rather than sitting on top of it the way a pressure-sensitive tape does. Two things follow from that. First, the seal cannot be peeled back and re-laid without visibly tearing the box, so tampering is obvious to the consignee rather than arguable. Second, a single strip across the centre seam usually does the work of the three strips a plastic tape needs, so cost per carton often falls even though cost per roll rises. It needs a wetting dispenser, manual or electric, and it needs the carton surface to be clean and unwaxed. It will not bond to a poly-coated or heavily printed box. Kraft also recycles with the carton in the same stream, which is increasingly what a buyer's packaging policy asks for in writing.
