Description

A sixteen gallon double-walled steel cabinet for flammable liquids, with a self-closing door, three-point latch, flame arrester vents and a leak-tight sill. Double wall with an air gap is the construction that gives the cabinet its fire rating — it slows the interior temperature rise long enough for people to leave and for a response to begin. The self-closing door matters because the failure mode in every real incident is a door left open. The two-inch leak-tight sill contains the contents of a toppled container rather than letting it run out under the door and find an ignition source. Vents are supplied plugged, and in most installations they should stay plugged unless a code or an authority requires them to be ducted; venting a flammable cabinet incorrectly makes it more dangerous, not less. Ground and bond the cabinet if you dispense from it, because a static discharge at an open bung is the ignition source this cabinet cannot protect you from. Check what quantities your occupancy permits before buying capacity.
