Spill Kit, 20-Gallon

Description

A wheeled twenty gallon overpack containing universal absorbent pads, socks, pillows, disposal bags, gloves and goggles. Universal absorbent takes oil, coolant and water-based spills alike, which is the right specification when the next spill is not known in advance; oil-only absorbent repels water and is for outdoor and on-water use, and it is the wrong choice inside a mixed facility. The socks go down first to contain the perimeter and stop the spill reaching a drain, then pads absorb the body of it, then pillows handle the deeper pooled area. Doing it in the other order pushes the spill outward and makes it larger. The container is an overpack, so it doubles as the disposal vessel for the used absorbent, which is normally a regulated waste. Keep it where the spill will be, not in a store cupboard — a kit two minutes away is a kit that arrives after the spill has reached the drain.
