Description

A fifty foot twelve-gauge three-conductor SJTW cord with a lighted triple-tap end. Gauge is the only specification that matters and the one most often got wrong: twelve gauge carries a genuine twenty amps over fifty feet with acceptable voltage drop, while the sixteen gauge cord sold at the same length cannot, and the consequence is not a tripped breaker but a warm cord and a tool that runs hot and dies early. Undersized cords kill more motors than hard use does. SJTW is the jacket rating — service junior, thermoplastic, weather resistant — rated for outdoor use and down to about minus twenty-five degrees, where a standard indoor jacket goes stiff and then cracks. The lighted end tells you the circuit is live without a meter, which saves more time than it sounds like. Do not run cords under doors, through standing water, or coiled on a reel at full load, where the coil traps heat.
