Description
A sixty by thirty inch bench with a laminated hardwood top on a welded steel frame, rated two thousand pounds, with a lower shelf. Laminated hardwood is the right top for general work: it takes a hammer blow without denting the workpiece the way steel does, it does not conduct, it can be sanded flat when it gets chewed, and a dropped part does not skate off it. Steel tops belong where there is welding or solvent; a resin top belongs where there is chemistry. The frame is welded and the legs are adjustable for an uneven floor — a bench that rocks is a bench nobody will use for layout work. Thirty inches deep is deliberate: a deeper bench accumulates a strip of unreachable clutter at the back within weeks. Bolt it to the wall or the floor if anything will be done on it that pushes sideways, such as filing or press work. Louvered panels mount to the back.
