Hi-Vis Class 2 Vest

Description

Five vests, ANSI/ISEA 107 Type R Class 2, with two-inch retroreflective tape and five-point breakaway seams. Class 2 is the level generally expected where traffic moves under about fifty miles an hour and around powered equipment in a yard; Class 3 with sleeves is for higher-speed roadway work. Type R means roadway, which is the designation most sites are asked for. The five-point breakaway is the feature worth insisting on around conveyors and rotating equipment: the vest is designed to come apart at the shoulders and sides under load, because a garment caught in a machine should lose that argument rather than the person wearing it. Retroreflective tape works by returning headlight or torchlight to its source, so it does very little under diffuse daylight — the fluorescent background fabric is what does the daytime work. Both the tape and the fluorescent background degrade with washing and with ultraviolet exposure, so replace vests on a schedule rather than on appearance — a faded vest still looks like a vest to the person wearing it and not to the driver who needs to see it.
