Disinfectant Cleaner, Quaternary

Description

A quaternary ammonium disinfectant cleaner that dilutes to one to one hundred and twenty-eight for hard non-porous surfaces. One product that cleans and disinfects in a single pass, which is what a cleaning round can actually sustain. The number everybody gets wrong is contact time, better called dwell time: the surface has to stay visibly wet for the full time stated on the label, typically several minutes, or the surface has been cleaned but not disinfected. Wiping it dry immediately is the commonest way a disinfection programme quietly does nothing. Quats are inactivated by heavy soil and by anionic soaps, so gross soil comes off first — disinfecting a dirty surface is wasted product. Mix fresh; diluted quat loses strength in a bucket over a shift. Always follow the label, because with a registered disinfectant the label is the legally binding instruction and it outranks any advice we or anyone else gives.
